AT LEAST AN HOUR TOO LONG

Wow, the producers really think this is going to make it on Broadway? Since a friend had tickets, The Cher Show only cost me the price of the drink I bought for my friend. I would have felt ripped off if I had spent a single dollar more. This show is way too long--three hours long. They used both song and book to portray the same scene over and over again when one or the other would have easily sufficed. Seriously, cut the book and songs stat. This show has the feel of way too many cooks in the kitchen--as well as way too many Chers. I guess they are going the Donna Summer route. How original. The singular highlight were the fabulous Bob Mackie costumes. If only the show had lived up to his fabulousness!

WASTE OF TIME

Telling the story of one of the most iconic female superstars of all time through her relationships with men...a total utter failure and disrespect!!! Cher deserves better than this. If you thought Sunny Bono couldn't get more annoying, you'd be wrong...the way he is played in this play is almost as painful as looking at the awful wigs. The few highlights was some remarkable dancers and decent choreography, as well as some gorgeous costumes (though some looked like they were from a high school play) and some glittery, blingy set designs. Overall, I think this production is a total waste of time and money. Cher deserves the very best...this is definitely not it.

ONLY GO IF YOU WANT TO HEAR CHER'S SONGS PERFORMED BY MANY

We went opening night and, admittedly, had high expectations. The show failed to deliver in several areas. First, the 3 main characters did a poor job of 'impersonating' Cher. The younger of the 3 was the best.. she sang in her own style and did the song justice. The others tried to imitate Cher and.. well, you know how that turns out. Some of the music was from recordings and not the orchestra, which was really odd (and poor quality). It also seemed like some songs were being lip synched.. that's really bad! As noted by another reviewer, the show lacked substance about many things Cher and her rise, her dealing with Chaz's transition and delivering a statement of empowerment for women. There was also a lack of continuity in the story, which could leave the audience confused at times. Bottom line.. they have a lot of refining to do to make this worthy of going.

SIMPLY AWFUL

As I watched, more and more, my thought was....this is LAME. Whoever wrote it has no idea how to tell a cohesive story. The childhood stuff, the first 20 minutes or so, was embarrassing to watch. Having multiple Chers, never knowing who was who, never knowing what the story arc was, all of it, made it seem interminable. The music was fine, but singing Bang Bang as a child when her stepfather left, and changing the text to “my daddy shot me down” was lame. Singing Half Breed as a child, when the song wouldn’t be released for 20 years or so....lame. The highlight of the show was I Got You Babe, with the actor playing Sonny nailing the song. But my feeling was....I paid $100 to hear one song well done by two impersonators? The day before, we saw The Buddy Holly Story. It was $25 per ticket and SO much more enjoyable. His life story was told chronologically, the music rocked, and everyone looked happy to be in it. Overall...save your money. Even if you love Cher, this will disappoint.

SIIP IT

This show is about 1.5 hours too long. There are about 14 too many songs. The ensemble dancers were clunky. The 2nd act is painfully long. The 3 actresses portraying Cher were more impersonators than portraying. They were shouting every song as loud as possible. Very poor performance quality. Should have left at intermission. No way this will make it on Broadway.
