CHER SHOW LACKED SUBSTANCE

A missed theatrical opportunity to highlight the full life story of Cher. Not one scene about Chaz’s transition and how that effected Cher as a mother. The show was a nice tribute to Sunny but the rest was about her as a Cougar, actress and being portrayed as a victim. I did not get a sense of female empowerment and where was the Pride in this show to all her fans. The acting and singing was great and overall entertaining. But the story lacked substance, truth and didn’t have an overall message. It was like ABBA but that was not an actual real plot line and the audience knew it.

GREAT SINGING, COSTUMES, HOWEVER...

I really wanted to love this show, but it was just ok. The 3 actresses playing Cher had amazing voices and the costumes were fantastic. This show was 3 hours long and there were definitely scenes that could have been cut. Having the Cher characters talking to each other throughout and singing together was somewhat disturbing. All in all would still recommend if you love the music, but storyline was somewhat weak.

CONFUSING

Don't think it will be a long Broadway run. Too confusing with 3 Cher characters on the stage at once. Costumes great and singers tried very hard. Actually dozed off before intermission. Very disappointed especially since the high balcony seats were so expensive. I would hope they tweek it alot before it hits Broadway. Still admire Cher.

NEEDS WORK

The three actresses playing Cher were talented, especially Stephanie Block who even has Cher’s body movements down cold. Bob Mackie’s costumes were beautiful and a sight to behold. But the book needs a lot of work. It’s cumbersome and rather dull in some parts, especially the second half of the show. Wanted to like it because huge fan of Cher, but it’s not quite there yet.

WAY TOO LONG

way too long. very light on the book. much credit to the dancers and the three girls who played Cher. Left at intermission....was hoping for more singing and dancing and less grindingly slow dialogue.

IN A WORD, "MEH"

Let me start by saying I LOVE musical theater and go often. As other reviewers have commented, The Cher Show is often confusing and lacks true substance. The three actors who portray Cher are excellent performers and each did her best. But the story construction is weak and attempts to cover so much ground that the story (and the audience's ability to fully appreciate all that Cher overcame and accomplished) is sorely underdeveloped. The use of three actors to portray Cher is also a confusing (and distracting). Initially, I thought each "Cher" was intended to represent a different period of Cher's life. But this is not the case. The three actors are used interchangeably throughout the performance without rhyme or reason, except for the fact that it helps with quick costume changes when one "Cher" is onstage while the other two make a costume change. Overall, I was really disappointed and left feeling like I'd wasted my time.

VERY DISJOINTED

It was confusing to see all three "Cher" actresses on stage at the same time and the addition of her life and the TV show was not a very fluid production. We think that this needs a lot of work if it is going to make in on Broadway.
