SPARKLY TRIBUTE

I saw the show tonight with a friend. First, the women playing Cher were terrific. Particularly the star Cher. She was really great. Actually, the supporting cast and other cast members were equally as terrific. There’s one particular dance scene that is pretty phenomenal. And the costumes were just sequined sunshine.. I think the first act needs a little tweaking, felt like they were trying to put too much story in that amount time and I thought the time lapse was a little bit choppy. But I found the second act to be solid. Was a great finish. I think there’s some great bones in the show. With some slight tweaking to the storyline, could be fantastic. Very fun and I left with a smile on my face. Extremely happy I saw this.

GREAT PERFORMANCES, STORYLINE NEEDS WORK

The casting, performances, and costumes were absolutely spectacular! If you are a Cher fan, you will definitely be satisfied. Unfortunately, the vehicle they use to tell her story is a bit confusing. I would have preferred the three "Chers" be kept separate until the end, I think that would have been a more powerful conclusion. And there was too much focus on Sonny. Also, the Cinderella angle was not necessary.

GOOD WITH LOTS OF POTENTIAL

I saw the performance on June 23. The show has been slimmed down to 2 hours and 35 minutes (which seems like quite a bit based on earlier reviews of 3 hours). I think there is still some big tension in the book- this idea of it being a TV variety special about her life- this makes it strange sometimes as scenes are performed around cameras (like the scene of Star Cher with Rob). Then there are times where this is not present and we just have the biographical moments. I am not sure if the folks behind the show read this feedback but I would suggest: jettisoning the variety show aspect (you could have Star Cher narrate her life while letting the other two Cher's still perform those appropriate time frames)- also the opening number of Act II needs to go! Act I can be about Sonny and Cher but Act II needs no more Sonny- Cher needs to be front and center. The good: costumes, performances (Stephanie J. Block is a vocal powerhouse), and the orchestrations. It has so much potential!

ENTERTAINING

Having 3 Cher's was hard to follow at times but overall I enjoyed the show. The Cher with the Curly hair sounded the most like her and I enjoyed watching her the most. I wish there was 1 Cher to show the progression of her life. I will be seeing the real Cher in Nov. in Vegas so I am glad I saw this to refresh my memory about her past. I thought it was very entertaining and alot of good dance routines.

FOR THE GLAM OF IT ALL

The Cher Show is interesting. The story of an awkward, dyslexic teen propelled by a variety show into song, theater and film bears seeing. I mean who would think that her success could even happen? The lady is tougher than a boa that's why. Using 3 Chers via a variety show format is rather clever. We enjoyed the 3 Chers and their interactions. Babe Cher stayed starstruck, Middle Cher remained confused and conflicted due to being in the thick of her own life and Star Cher brings the experience and oh, the sass. We assume the director will tweak it so the audience can exit in 2.5 hrs and improve the comedy (content, timing) along with the transition to the final punch. The lighting and set are fantastic. The costumes will win awards. For adults too young to know anything about Cher, you will enjoy the ingenuity and glamour of the 70's-80s. Go enjoy the show. It's time to whip our hair, fold our arms and get on.

FUN AND COLORFUL.

There was really only one part that dragged a little, otherwise the time went by quickly and a good time was had by all. The Bob Mackie number steals the show. The crowd was all ages, and they gave the cast a standing ovation. I don't know how someone unfamiliar with her songs (but isn't everyone over 35 at least somewhat familiar with her songs?) would like the show, but all the hits except "Love and Understanding" (inexplicably omitted)--from oldest to more recent--are here, several arranged in a different way and a couple of other actors get to shine besides the three Chers (and yes, IMO that gimmick works). My friend who has seen all the "jukebox" musicals said this was one of the most fun.

LOVED MOST OF THE SHOW.

This show left me with mixed feelings. Loved the music, great voices and a good representation of her music. Loved the interactions between the three Chers, for me it showed that although we evolve as human beings our present is still influenced by our past. The Bob Mackie fashion tribute was fantastic. The dancing superb. And I must say that the recreation of the set from the Sonny and Cher Show took me back to my childhood watching the show with my family. Negatives: A bit too long, especially the first act. Several people I talked to or observed had to leave and use the restroom before intermission. Too focused on her years with Sonny. Lastly the parting note which gave me the impression she is still yearning for that elusive man who will not leave her.
