A delightfully frothy comic opera
From the mind that gave the world the madcap mischief of The Barber of Seville, Gioachino Antonio Rossini's Le Comte Ory is another delightful confection of operatic hijinks, fanciful love plots, and energetic arias determined to leave a smile on your face! Revived by the Lyric Opera Of Chicago for the 2022/23 season, enjoy this rare gem as it whisks up a frothy farce at the Civic Opera House this winter.
What is the story?
While the men of the kingdom are away on a crusade, the women, including Countess Adele, sequester themselves in the castle, awaiting their return. Undeterred, the lusty Count Ory decides to try his luck with Adele by taking on a series of disguises with the intention of sharing his bed. Little does he know, getting to the Countess is going to take more than just a wimple and some kind words!
