Giacomo Puccinis magnum opus is a tale set in a fantastical realm of legendary China. The Princess of the title name, Turandot, is played by American Soprano Amber Wagner (star Ryan Opera Center alumni) with Italian tenor, Stefano La Colla debuting as Calaf, a determined suitor. The cast makes the music of Puccini's final opera come alive under the baton of Maestro Sir Andrew Davis and Director Rob Kearley, who is making his Lyric opera debut.

If I Puritani is set to play you can be confident the company has a masterful cast of singers lined up - it is that kind of opera. Known as a production that depends largely on the vocal abilities of the performers and their intrinsic emotional reactions, Lyric Opera's season features the talents of Russian coloratura soprano, Albina Shagimuratova and bel canto tenor, Lawrence Brownlee in the leading roles of Bellini's final work. They will be presided in the pit by Golden Mask Award-nominated conductor, Enrique Mazzola.

Grammy Award winner, Ana Maria Martinez will have a welcome return to Chicago's operatic home this season! She is set to play Fiordiligi, in Mozart's satirical opera Cosi Fan Tutte (rendered as "Women Are Like That"), or perhaps in the less misogynistic but aptly revealing subtitled, "The School For Lovers" (as Mozart's librettist Da Ponte would have had it called). This risque comedy opera about relationship boundaries will be led by the baton of James Gaffigan in his Lyric Opera debut and includes the heartrending trio, 'Soave Sia il Vento'.

Benjamin Bernheim makes his debut at the Lyric Opera stage this season, in the title role of Faust. He performs alongside Ryan Opera Center alumni, Erin Wall as Marguerite (the object of Faust's affection) and Christian Van Horn, the Lyric Opera Center graduate as Mephistopheles (Lord of the underworld aka the Devil). Returning to the podium to lead the orchestra is Emmanuel Villaume. Based on Johann Wolfgang von Goethe's two-part play, Charles Gounod (Ave Maria) concentrates his opera on Faust's romantic encounter with Marguerite and the tragic results of their liaison, showcasing the aria masterpieces of 'The Golden Calf', 'Jewel Aria', and the 'Soldiers Chorus'.
