Lyric Opera of Chicago: Carmen

February 11 - March 25, 2017

Don't miss Bizet's timeless, sultry masterpiece, in this new-to-Chicago production that first premiered at the Houston Grand Opera. With a libretto by Henry Meilhac and Ludovic Halevy, Carmen first premiered in Paris in 1875 and has come to be regarded as one of the art form's greatest achievements. The ultimate tale of the femme fatale and how her ruthless behaviour leads those around her astray, including the quiet, sensible Don Jose, who finds himself drawn to the seductive but fatally dangerous beauty...

The Lyric Opera of Chicago present Tchaikovsky's Eugene Onegin, a tale of burning passion, love unreturned and regret. Perhaps one of the best examples of the Lyric Opera style that places emphasis on melody with a fantasy or romance theme, the opera showcases Tchaikovsky's soaring melodic brilliance and virtuosic orchestration.
