Explore the birth of the universe with Haydn's The Creation!
Haydn's extraordinary and epic take on the beginnings of the universe meets the peerless skill of Chicago's Lyric Opera, opening for two nights only in January 2027!
Utilising excerpts from Genesis and Milton's Paradise Lost alongside a sweeping and transporting score, Haydn's The Creation explores the various aspects of life's origins with beauty and wonder.
The Creation is often considered to be Haydn's crowning achievement as a composer. Taking passages from the Book of Genesis as well as Paradise Lost, the structure is based around the six days of creation, as various angels witness the birth of life and the beginnings of humanity, ending with Adam and Eve's time in the Garden of Eden. Featuring some of Haydn's most expressive, expansive, and awe-inspiring motifs, The Creation is a musical experience like no other.
