A Soul-Stirring Programme Of Sacred Masterworks

Spend an evening revelling in the grandeur of Poulenc and Gounod's sacred masterworks, brought to you by the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and helmed by none other than renowned French conductor Alain Altinoglu. Together they'll be revisiting an era where music and the Church were deeply intwined in the classical world.

The programme kicks off with the wit and whimsy of Prokofiev's Suite from The Love For Three Oranges, a rousing satirical opera that drew on the farcical nature of commedia dell'arte. This is followed by Puolenc's soaring Gloria, a joyful devotional that is at once grand and playful in its exultation. Closing the evening will be Gounod's soul-stirring Saint Cecilia Mass, a heavenly opus considered a turning point in the Prix de Rome-winning composer's career.
