An Interactive & Eye-Opening Experience
Can you remember a time when a theatre performances challenged the very foundations of your political beliefs? Or a time when it roused rebellion within you, making you want to stand up to the status quo? Fresh from a triumphant run at the 2018 Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Belgian experimental theatre company Ontroertend Goed bring their boundary-pushing piece 'Fight Night' to the Chicago Shakespeare Theater for a strictly limited run this fall, and it may make you rethink everything you thought you knew about modern democracy.
The high energy show presents five contenders who take to the stage hoping to win the audience over with campaigns, debates, exit polls, referendums, coalitions, spin doctors, lists, back-biting, floor crossing and dirty politics - sound familiar? Putting hand-held voting technology in the audience's hand, the onus is on you to decide how you feel about these candidates, but limited sound bites and official appearances can be deceiving... Bringing people face to face with the cult of celebrity and the weaknesses of today's political systems, Fight Night is truly engaging and thought-provoking theater.
