A sweet old-fashioned musical that warms the heart
Revived at Broadway's Roundabout Theatre Company in 2016 and nominated for eight Tony Awards, the effervescent musical She Loves Me first premiered in 1993, where it won its very first Tony for Best Musical. The story revolves around a pair of constantly bickering parfumerie clerks, who are unaware that each is the other's romantic pen pal. This popular storyline has been seen in both theater and film, most famously the 1998 Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan reunion You've Got Mail. This production by Marriott Theatre is directed by Aaron Thielen.
Set in Hungary, the original play was written by Miklos Laszlo and has seen three major adaptations including the musical production and the 1940 film The Shop Around the Corner starring James Stewart and the 1949 Judy Garland-Van Johnson musical In the Good Old Summertime.
The 2016 Broadway revival was helmed by Scott Ellis (The Elephant Man) and starred stage favorites Zachary Levi (Chuck) and Tony winners Laura Benanti (Gypsy) and Jane Krakowski (30 Rock.
