The hit musical splashes down this fall!
The Marriott Theatre presents a full-scale splashtastic production of MGM's Singing' The Rain that promises to make you dance your way home afterward! Celebrated by audiences and critics alike, Singin' in the Rain delves into the heart of the Hollywood movie industry scene, where the silent days are rapidly waning and "talkies" are the new rage! Adapted from the acclaimed 1952 movie, William Brown's helmed production is full of reminiscent charm, comedy, romance and glamor.
What is it about?
It's 1927 and times are a-changing in Hollywood. The days of the silent screen are nearing an end, and rumors of a new "talking picture" is panicking producers and studio executives everywhere. Don Lockwood has worked his way from humble beginnings in vaudeville to silent film fame and the world's most famous on-screen romance with the beautiful Lina Lamont.
But when the first talking picture proves to be wildly successful, the pair's director decided the new Lockwood and Lamont film must be a 'talkie'. Not a problem for our dashing Don (who was once a musician), but as Lina's voice is irreparably discordant with a nasal ear-splitting shrillness, the future of the famed pair looks doomed - until Don's sidekick Cosmo comes up with a cunning plan; find a perfect voice! In search of the perfect dubbing voice, Lockwood finds what he's looking for - and more - in the aspiring actress Kathy Selden. But when Lina learns of their blossoming romance and plan, she is determined to take all the credit - and Don - for herself.
DID YOU KNOW?
The 1952 film made a star out of Debbie Reynolds who was only nineteen at the time. However, that is not her singing voice in the movie; ironically Reynolds was herself dubbed over in the songs by another actress, Betty Noyes!
