ECLECTIC AND ENTERTAINING

The fact that TR's "hit wonder" followers were probably not expecting the set-list of the Cincinnati Me/We show is further evidence of his credo of IDGAF artistic and eclectic performances. Playing some songs for the first time live and some not-so-well-known songs across a wide array of genres, including one a Capela tune followed immediately by the hard rock performance of 'Rock Love' would test any performers ability to deliver, which he did. He played for almost exactly two hours, with no break except prior to the encore. His voice was incredibly strong and could cover a wide range of genres simultaneously. Recall that he will turn 76 in two months and is now touring over 50 cities, performing several times a week, a test even for those half his age. Truly a Wizard and True Star.

UNPREDICTABLE

For those who came to hear Predicable that is not what the show was about. It was unpredictable and song set good. We travelled from NC and would again. Sound engineer did ok with an old church venue. I wish the lady up front would have stopped with the song suggestions from the audience. Clearly that was why Todd didn’t play Hello it’s me. He warned her several times. What was wrong with her the title of show was unpredictable. I have seen Todd three times this year. Can’t wait to go again.

UTOPIA

It was a great show. The Band played excellent, so many great songs, even the sound was good at Comerica. So enjoyable to watch Todd jammin out lead guitar riffs with the best of them. He is still a great showman who can work the room. Till next Brother!

TIGHT MUSICIANSHIP - WIDE RANGE

Never saw Todd before; familiar with some of the hits but didn't get to hear my fav's. First set mostly instrumental, showcasing the prog-rock genre Rundgren pioneered. Amazed at the vocal performance; Todd still has range after all these years. 2nd set consisted of more radio-length songs vs. the jams of the first set. Displayed range with ELO's "Do Ya" to a West Side Story tune. Hoping to hear "Bang The Drum" or "Still be Friends" and you'll be disappointed, but clearly one of the guitar masters still touring today.

GREAT PERFORMANCE

I have been listening to his music (both Utopia & his solo work) since the 70's. Over that time, I have only managed to see him 3 times, so I was really looking forward to this show. The playing as well as the vocal work was outstanding and I wish I could have sat through the show twice. At almost 70 years of age, it's amazing Todd still has the vocal chops. The only downside to the show (at least for me was the sound). I was sitting in the 1st balcony almost dead center. Pretty much an ideal location from a mix stand point. The "front of house engineer" had a good balance of everything going. The problem was that he was driving the system a lot louder than it needed to be. That resulted in a lot of sonic detail completely getting lost in a massive assault of mid range frequencies. Anyway, this is not supposed to be a sound review. Utopia 5 out of 5 for performance and basically nailing the material. Sound, 3 out of 5. Thanks for the memories guys.

EXACTLY WHAT I EXPECTED...A GREAT SHOW

Loved the songs and dialog. I’m a fan of the music and this concert didn’t disappoint. I don’t typically pay to see concerts as I work in the industry but this was worth the price of admission. Wishing Todd all the best and thanks for the music!!!

TODD IN BOULDER

All of the best concerts I have gone to, have a common denominator - I knew nothing of the artist and their music at the time. No. 1 on that list - Todd, on the first Utopia tour. I'm still blown away. May 30 2019 in Boulder - I give it 4 stars because my wife loved it. He played most of his "hits" and "near misses", and maybe favorites of his that you wouldn't expect him to play, such as "Fair Warning". The songs I enjoyed the most were the ones I have heard the least, like "I Don't Want to Tie You Down". I bought all his records and played them heavily after seeing him the first time, and this is the third time since then. He's never measured up to the first time, but that is probably not his fault. The encore was Just One Victory. It felt great to sing along. But Kasim Sulton should be ashamed of himself for not even trying to play John Siegler's bass part in that song. C'mon, man! (I still miss John and Kevin Ellman.)
