THE BAND IS FANTASTIC, BUT...

I love this band. Unfortunately, the sound mixing at their Greek Theater, 2022 performance left much to be desired. There was no separation of instruments, so it came at the audience like an undifferentiated squall of sound. Many retreated to a snack bar behind the stage and watched it on the big screen.

TOO MANY SOLOS THAT WERE NOT SUSAN

There is no question that Derek Trucks is a virtuoso guitarist but there are only so many blistering solos that one can take. The middle instrumental set struck me as an ego exercise. The drums solo was excruciating. I longed to hear more vocals from Susan. I came away with an uncomfortable feeling that she acquiesced the spotlight to him. Maybe not intentionally, but still. She is equal to him in talent.

GREAT TALENT. POOR SONG CHOICES. TOO MUCH SOLO. SHAME.

Difference between this 3 star review and what might have been a 5 star review is play better song selections, eliminate or shorten the pointless, unlikable, overly extended and boring guitar/drum solos(think Jimmie Hendrix song stuck in the middle of a Classical concert), and play more of the more successful (better) songs in their repertoire(think Harlem,Moon, etc). (The 'Chev' 2nd selection song sounded tremendous). Besides all that, the overall sound quality and lighting was terrific. Always remember, you'll always have newbys at your concerts(including 5 of us last night the 14th) who appreciate hearing a few of your classic songs. You are an amazing talent. Don't get too tired to play more of your hits and instead experiment with too much poorer quality.

A DELICATE BALANCE - SEATTLE (5/27/24)

Concerts are not the best place to showcase artist talent. Typically the best recordings an artist can present to their public are from the studio. Sure, there are plenty of exceptions like the Dead, or simply pick your favorite jam band. With a 12 piece band, and so many talented players, it's hard to allow everyone to fully show their abilites. Such as it was with this show. Derek Trucks, truly a virtuoso, posessing a unique style and approach to blues guitar, dominated the performance to the band's detriment. When artistry becomes self-indulgent, it loses its brilliance and becomes tedious. There were bright moments delivered by several supporting players. Gabe Dixon, Mark Rivers, and Alecia Chakour stand out for me. But, I really think the TTB needs to take a hard look at the themes, narratives, and pace of their live performance. It lacked cohesion and focus. Of course it's Susan and Derek's band and they get to do what they choose to do and I wish the entire band great luck!

TOO LITTLE SUSAN

Too many Trucks solos...not enough Susan. My four friends agreed.

LIKE LENGTHY GUITAR SOLOS? THIS IS THE SHOW FOR YOU. ST? NOT SO MUCH.

Saw the show at the Greek Theater in Berkeley. Huge undifferentiated sound most of the time. V hard to hear Susan, or really any of the individuals singing or playing. Huge fan of TTB, but how many guitar solos ( from DT and then, as if there weren’t enough) from three members of Los Lobos. Pass.

ONE OF MY FAVORITE BANDS / SO DISAPPOINTED!

One of my all-time favorite bands, caught their show at Live Oak Pavilion in Wilmington,NC last night 9/7/23. I was looking forward to a great concert from this phenomenal band…So Very Disappointed! My 31y/o son knew how much I like TTB, he bought tickets as a Father’s Day gift for he and I, met up with a bunch of his friends (girls & guys) I’ve known since they were in 1st grade he grew up with. I was talking up TTB…Wow, what a boring show, snoozer! Especially first half before intermission! A 10-15 minute drum solo was cool back in the day when I was a kid in ‘68 Iron Butterfly’s In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida but when a band starts out snoozing, into a drum solo, then intermission, what little momentum of an anticipated concert was soon lost except for us gray haired 1970s-80s concert hardcores. Many of the younger folks hung around still giving them the benefit of the doubt but TTB missed a target rich environment for new fans. Except for Midnight In Harlem and Anyway Anyhow, not impressed
