Lindiwe

Lindiwe at Steppenwolf Theatre

Why see Lindiwe?

See The World Premiere Production

Almost three decades since five-time Grammy Award-winning South African a cappella pioneers and Chicago's Steppenwolf Theatre company first joined forces, resulting in the six-time Tony nominated Broadway transfer The Song of Jacob Zulu, the respected partnership makes theatrical magic once more. Don't miss the world premiere of Lindiwe, written and co-directed by Ladysmith Black Mambazo vocalist Eric Simonson and Steppenwolf artistic producer Jonathan Berry.

Ladysmith Black Mambazo's lush African, tapestry-esque harmonies evoke a sonic story infused with magical realism. Traversing between the Kingston mines of the Windy City to South Africa and the world beyond this one, the unorthadox love story centers on the titular heroine Lindiwe whilst exploring what it means to love, be loved and make the ultimate sacrifice for it.

As the couple draw together, so does their music, in delightful and thought-provoking ways. The jokes work, even if some of them are ones you’ve heard in other contexts your whole lives. But the love story, between the characters and their music, is what drives this show straight through your heart. ... Read more
