Virtuoso Yuja Wang conducts and performs
Superstar pianist Yuja Wang both performs with and conducts the Mahler Symphony Orchestra from the place she thrives best - behind the ivories. With a program that includes Chopin's luminous Piano Concerto No. 2 and two Prokofiev masterpieces - his daring Second Piano Concerto and his lively tribute to Haydn, the spirited Classical Symphony. A chance to see a true virtuoso in a unique dual-role!
A player of peerless speed and insight, Yuja Wang is one of the finest pianists alive today. Born in Beijing, she began piano lessons at the age of six and was instantly enthralled by the instrument. Completing her formal education at the Curtis Institute for Music in Philadelphia, it wasn't long before she was performing with likes of Gustavo Dudamel and et al. Of her performance of notoriously tricky Beethoven's Hammerklavier Sonata in 2016, the New York Times wrote: "Ms. Wang's virtuosity goes well beyond uncanny facility."
