By turns dazzling and exhilarating, Rimsky-Korsakov's 'narrative in sound' Scheherazade is a thrilling interpretation of the age-old fairytales detailed in Arabian Nights, or 1001 Nights. As we're taken in by the tales of the titular storyteller, it transports the listener to far off lands where magic, blazing romance and adventure intwine through beguiling melodies and rhythms inspired by both Russian music and the allure of the Middle East as seen by the West.
His most popular work, it top lines this exciting evening conducted by Riccardo Muti, who also takes on two Mozart favorites - his 'appeal to eternity' Symphony No. 40 and the overture to the comic opera Don Giovanni.
