Chicago Symphony Orchestra - Makela Conducts Rite of Spring

Why see Chicago Symphony Orchestra - Makela Conducts Rite of Spring?

A Salutation To Spring

The Chicago Symphony Orchestra presents a stunning salvo of masterful music, with Stravinsky's Le Sacre Du Printemps: The Rite of Spring headlining the program! Led by Klaus Makela, the orchestra will also delight audiences with a performance of the George Gershwin classic An American In Paris and Milhaud's Latin-inspired Le Boeuf Sur Le Toit, rounding off a bouncy program to see in the coming of brighter days.

The Rite of Spring is one of Stravinsky's true masterpieces. Composed for the Parisienne ballet company Ballet Russes in time for their 1913 season, the bombastic work famously incited a riot at its grand premiere, one of the most notorious events in the history of the artform. In the eyes of many it remains one of the most exciting pieces of orchestral work and worth witnessing for any lover of powerful music.
