Chicago Symphony Orchestra - Klaus Makela and Yunchan Lim

Why see Chicago Symphony Orchestra - Klaus Makela and Yunchan Lim?

Young Talent

Finnish conductor and cellist Zell Music Director Designate, Klaus Makela, leads virtuoso pianist Yunchan Lim and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra through Schumann's Piano Concerto, as well as rousing rendition of Beethoven's Seventh Symphony at the Symphony Center! One of the shining lights of the new face of classical music, the now-29-year old Makela became the Swedish Radio Orchestra's youngest ever conductor in 2017 and has since led some of the world's greatest orchestras. Yunchan Lim's sparkling talent first came to international attention in 2022, and since his breakout the young virtuoso has appeared as a soloist with leading orchestras around the world, including the New York Philharmonic, Tokyo Philharmonic and Korea Symphony. Be sure to take this opportunity to see this raw talent at work.

Schumann's Piano Concerto is comprised of three movements; a dramatic and powerful opening theme, a melodically sweet intermezzo and an energetic finale. Meanwhile, Beethoven's Seventh is a dynamic balance between orchestral grandeur and Beethoven's penchant for simple melody-driven arrangement, gaining momentum for a fiery finale in which its musicians play as if their very lives depend on it.
