Chicago Symphony Orchestra play Beethoven's masterful 7th
Chicago Symphony Orchestra perform a spectacular recital of Beethoven's Seventh. Whilst it's a work which may be sandwiched between his famous Fifth, Sixth and Ninth, it is by no means in their considerable shadows. A dynamic balance between orchestral grandeur and Beethoven's penchant for simple melody-driven arrangement, the masterful symphony gains momentum for a fiery finale in which its musicians play as if their very lives depend on it.
Also performed is Schubert's marvelous Beethoven-inspired Sixth Symphony, written when the composer was still very young. The concert will be conducted by Petr Popelka in place of Herbert Blomstedt, who unfortunately has had to withdraw for personal health reasons.
