Chicago Symphony Orchestra is led by Karina Canellakis in a magnificent concert featuring Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky's emotional Symphony No. 5, as well as Bela Bartok's romantic Piano Concerto No. 3, as performed by Illinois' own Conrad Tao on the piano! Tchaikovsky's colorful Fifth is intended by the composer as a piece to be played with desire, while Bartok's concerto is a love letter to both his wife and his home nation of Hungary; two works that set the scene for a passionate showing from the orchestra!
Born in New York of Russian and Greek descent, conductor Karina Canellakis is making waves around the globe for her thrilling performances at the podium with orchestras such as the New York Philharmonic, Orchestre de Paris, Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra and others, making the step up to conducting following a career as a violinist with the Berlin Philharmonic.
