Why see The Comeuppance?
Award-Nominated Satire
Equally amusing as it is thought-provoking, The Comeuppance is a cutting satire from the Pulitzer Prize-winning mind of Branden Jacobs-Jenkins (Purpose). It asks the age-old question: how do we break free from our past selves, and is liberation from our former identities even possible? After premiering off-Broadway in 2023 and receiving recognition at the Obie Awards, the play now comes to the Steppenwolf under the direction of Tina Landau!
About The Comeuppance
Consequences catch up with us, and poor decisions come to light. A circle of friends reunites before their high school reunion, two decades after they graduated: some have started families, others have travelled far from home, and a few have experienced the horrors of war. However, there's an additional presence among them... and as they reconnect and recall old memories, wounds from their school days slowly begin to reopen.
