Urinetown: The Musical

Urinetown: The Musical at Stage 773

Why see Urinetown: The Musical?

The chicago premiere!

Winner of three Tony Awards, this hilarious musical parody is perilously funny for bladders everywhere, first appearing on Broadway back in 2001, and since going on towin over audiences in the UK too! Developed at the New York International Fringe Festival, the crazy world of Urinetown exploded ran for three years, introducing people to new original songs and characters that ushered in a new. edgier type of stage musical. Now currently playing for a limited season at Chicago's Stage 773, see why this fiendishly sharp-witted show is a leader in the new millennium musical genre.

You'll struggle to hold it in!

In this irreverent satire about spending a penny, life is grim. Musing on corporate greed, political power and exploitation, with a whole lot of musical theatre pastiche thrown in, this urban dystopia has a strong message, and translates that in the context of pee. Urinetown has since become highly acclaimed, once people get over the title. The self-referential show, enjoyed huge success in London's West End, directed by Jamie Lloyd, running for three months.

In the bleak reality of Urinetown, everything is in moderation. A drought has led to a tax on peeing, so all, ahem... motions have to be carried out in heavily guarded public lavatories. If you can't pay, you cant go. Those who choose to use the street are arrested and sent to the titular Urinetown, a horrific destination from which no one ever returns. At the heart of the story is the dashing everyman Bobby Strong, who rallies against the government, and ultimately, the evil corporations pulling the strings...
