Sunset Boulevard

Sunset Boulevard at Ruth Page Center for the Arts

Why see Sunset Boulevard?

WITH ONE LOOK, I PLAY EVERY PART

Porchlight Music Theatre takes you all the way back to the Golden Age of Hollywood with Andrew Lloyd Webber's stunning masterpiece this fall. Starring local favorite Hollis Resnik as Norma Desmond, the reclusive screen siren left behind as the Talkies took over from Silent features, Sunset Boulevard is the ultimate tale of obsession and dangerous fantasy set in a bygone age of glamor and ambition.

Set to Lloyd Webber's best score with music and lyrics by Don Black and Christopher Hampton and based in turn on Billy Wilder's 1950 film of the same name, Sunset Boulevard has truly established itself as a modern classic. With its own movie adaptation in the works, there is no better time to treat yourself to this dreamy epic.

What is the story?

Desperate for a comeback, outmoded Norma Demons enlists the services of wide-eyed screenwriter Joe Gillis, believing he can save her career. But for Joe, helping Norma comes at too heavy a price, despite the wonder of her luxurious lifestyle. When Joe loses his heart to budding writer Betty, Norma sees her chance slipping away and decides to act - with tragic consequences.
