Mothers, grab your daughters and run to see this production of Freaky Friday before it closes. I never expected such a well-crafted, intimate piece of theater from the people at Disney, but I am so glad I had the opportunity to see this gem.

Since the immediate success of Mary Rodgers' mother-daughter body-switching novel in 1972, the narrative at its heart has remained a popular choice for film and TV adaptations. Taking to the stage for the first time in 2016, the Disney theatrical production distilled the madcap caper into musical magic, with a score by Pulitzer Prize winner Tom Kitt, lyrics by Brian Yorkey and a book by Bridget Carpenter.
Enjoying its Chicago premiere, Freaky Friday brings the tale of a highly-strung, overworked mother and her rebellious teen daughter to the Ruth Page Center for the Arts. As hard as they try, Ellie Blake and her mom Katherine just can't see eye to eye. Katherine wants Ellie to be the best version of herself, whilst Ellie wants Katherine to stop trying to change her. One fateful Friday, the day before Katherine's wedding, the pair switch bodies and have to spend a day walking in each other's shoes.
