The story of Chicago's legendary Christmas Tree Ship
The story of Chicago's legendary Christmas Tree Ship
The Christmas Schooner has long been a festive Chicago tradition. After a twelve year run at the Bailwick Repertory Theatre, it was revived last year at The Mercury, and proved such a big hit that's it's back again in 2015. The musical is inspired by the story of the Rouse Simmons, the so-called Christmas Tree Ship which would navigate treacherous seas every year to deliver its cargo of Christmas trees to the people of Chicago. Tragedy struck in 1912 when the ship was caught in a terrible storm and was sunk.
The show pays tribute to bravery of the ship's crew, with a powerful and heart-warming story filled with traditional Christmas favourites and a cast of some 25 performers. It opens at The Mercury Theatre on November 25th for a month long run.
