Destiny of Desire

Destiny of Desire at Albert Goodman Theater

Why see Destiny of Desire?

Celebrating the Latin American telenova!

The Latin American telenova provides the basis for this stormingly funny comedy by Karen Zacarias that premiered in 2015 at the Women's Voices Theater Festival in DC. Exploring the themes of race, gender, class politics and dramas that have made the telenova a worldwide cultural phenomenon, Destiny Of Desire is a wickedly dark comedy drama that fans of the genre will love, and will no doubt entice new audiences to the television phenomenon long after the curtain falls.

What is it about?

In a storyline so incredible that it could only really be attributed to a telenova, our story begins on a stormy night in a Mexican hospital, where two baby girls are born to two very different families. One family is rich and successful with a weak, sickly baby; the other is impoverished, but their daughter is strong. However, the rich trophy wife is determined to secure her legacy, and swaps over the two girls, changing their destinies for ever. However, as the girls grow up into two very different women, their paths cross again with dramatic and hilarious results!

REIR HASTA Q' LLORES

For all who grew up watching novelas con la familia this play is NOT to be missed. This farcical on a Latino staple is not only funny, it's creative way in staging using actors was entertaining and the sidebar information was sobering, sad and very current in the times in which we live. Love it! Going back con mis hermanas, mis comadres y mis amigiz. Ms.Zacarias que goooooooolazo! Clever in it's twists and turns had me ODM (OMG in English) especially with the ending. The piano and accordion had me reminiscing for the fiestas that my Papi had. Was that musica de Agustin Lara? On my way home cranked up the playlist con Pedro Infante, Toña la Negra, and of course Agustin. Gracias a todos! Me la pase de lo maximo.Go see this play. Appropriate for a date, bring a friend, but leave the little ones en la casa. ... Read more
