Sweeney Todd

Sweeney Todd at Drury Lane Theatre Oakbrook Terrace

Why see Sweeney Todd?

A dark and mesmerizing journey through Victorian London, the play is the story of Benjamin Barker, a barber who escapes prison after 15 years to seek revenge on Judge Turpin, the man who unjustly imprisoned him and stole away his wife and child.

Stephen Sondheim’s haunting musical thriller has been hailed "the greatest musical of the past half-century” by the Wall Street Journal. Sophisticated and uncompromising, “Sweeney Todd” has a great sense of fun, mixing intense drama with howlingly funny moments of dark humor. You will find yourself laughing hysterically one moment and gasping in surprise the next.

Sweeney Todd was also brought to the big screen starring Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham-Carter in 2007, featuring songs from the original score by Sondheim.
