Robert Harling's seminal tearjerker takes to the stage
The heart wrenching, deeply moving dramedy Steel Magnolias wings its way to the Drury Lane Theatre this summer as part of the 2020/21 season. Writer Robert Harling's tribute to his late sister to life with tenderness and heart, Steel Magnolias portrays the resilience of the bonds of womanhood and sisterhood in one small Louisiana town.
Charting the lives of six small-town women through times of great hardship, great joy and the messy bits in between, the play balances Harling's trademark witty dialogue with moments of despair for a profound portrait of the human condition. Set in the Chinquapin salon, Louisiana, the play chronicles salon owner Truvy Jone's interactions with her regulars and friends. Their lighthearted conversations and true friendship, go a long way in helping them cope with the difficulties of life.
