Evita at Drury Lane Theatre Oakbrook Terrace

Why see Evita?

Cry tears of joy at this biographical masterpiece

Don't miss your local production of the stunning musical

The iconic musical that started life in 1976 as a concept album will ignite your passionate side! Soon after, the production debuted on stage in London's West End starring Elaine Paige as the polarizing Argentine first lady Eva Peron and was directed by Hal Prince. The Broadway transfer in 1979 starred Patti LuPone, who went on to win one of the seven 1980 Tony Awards that the show garnered. Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice's iconic score features the Broadway classic 'Don't Cry For Me Argentina'.

Peron lead a whirlwind life. Hailed as the "Saint of the Working Class" in Argentine history, she cut a controversial figure after pulling herself out from under the crippling weight of poverty, marrying president Juan Peron in 1945. She came out from under her husband's shadow as a woman of the people, running for the Vice Presidential candidacy, however, tragedy struck and she had to pull out when cancer took its toll. At once beloved and reviled for her extravagant lifestyle, Peron remains an enigmatic presence to many. A movie version of Evita was released in 1996 starring Madonna, Jonathan Pryce, Antonio Banderas, and Jimmy Nail.

EVITA AT DRURY LANE

The play was excellent. There were standout actors especially the man who played Che, however the girl who played Eve Peron was very hard to understand so a lot was lost in understanding the show. I went home and watched Madonna play the part and her diction was perfect compared to this girl. She has a nice voice but her diction was horrible for a lot of the songs. Because this play is all singing and no dialogue, it is so important to be able to understand what she is saying. ... Read more

EVITA = STAR POWER

Do not miss this show! The 3 stars; Josh Young, Caroline Bowman and Sear MacLaughlin are all fantastic. They are gorgeous to look at, can all sing & dance, and they alone are worth the price of admission. However the rest of the cast is about the same. Young good looking and all a triple threat. If you have never seen it go. If you loved the original you will love this! ... Read more

Evita Stands for Star Power

New or old fans of this show will be impressed with this high- octaine mounting. Darker and more edgy than the original. The three stars, Caroline Bowman, Josh Young & Sean MacLaughlin are more than a touch of star quality. Young is incandescent as Che with a voice that could sing real opera. Darkly handsome and loaded with charisma he owns the stage. Bowman looks beautiful in the costumes, with a strongly dramatic voice, and when blonde, resembles Evita. Sean MacLaughlin another commanding, masculine presence both vocally and visually. Entire cast, triple threat....I saw it four times in Los Angeles Do not miss this show! ... Read more
