The Lyric Opera's re-imagining of Wagner's monumental Ring Cycle continues! The battle between Gods and mortals for dominion continues apace in this explosive and majestic follow-up that pits love against power once more. The most romantic of the Ring operas, don't miss this emotionally intense and exciting production as it returns for 2020, starring Christine Goerke, Burkhard Fritz, Eric Owns and Samuel Youn.
As Wotan desperately seeks a way out of his curse, his children run into trouble. Siegmund, his half-mortal and innocent son finds himself battling his nemesis Hunding, after falling for his wife Sieglinde who is, unbeknownst to either of them, his twin sister. Whilst the fight continues on earth, the Gods look down. Wotan beseeches his Brunnhilde, his Valkyrie daughter, a reaper of heroes, to protect his son. But his wife, Fricka, the protector of Wedlock is angered by the adultery and incest he has committed and bids Brunnhilde to make sure he dies. Torn between compassion and duty, Brunnhilde awaits a terrible fate...
Epic, bloody and magnificent, Wagner gave us one of opera's most recognizable pieces 'The Ride of the Valkyries' in this excellent fable of warring Gods and monsters.
