The romantic tragedy to end all romantic tragedies, La Boheme as been a staple of opera house viewing since it debuted in 1896. Puccini's enrapturing score enjoys a brand new revival in the form English director Richard Jones' revamped production, which made its world premiere in London in 2017. A co-production between the Royal Opera House and Teatro Real Madrid, its cast includes Italian soprano Maria Agresta in the role of Mimi and American tenor Micheal Fabiano as Rodolfo.
The term bohemian refers to free-spirited, creatives who lead unconventional lives on the fringes of society. The story's sweeping libretto tells the tale of a group of such individuals, whose shared moments of ecstasy can only end in tragedy. Penniless poet Rodolfo and young seamstress Mimi fall deeply in love, but will he stay by her side when she is struck by tuberculosis?
