Joffrey Ballet - Eugene Onegin

A passionate and brooding classic
Why see Joffrey Ballet - Eugene Onegin?
Dark And Brooding
Composer Ilya Demutsky and choreographer Yuri Possokhov's stirring and heartbreaking rendition of Alexander Pushkin's Eugene Onegin is presented for the first time in Chicago by Joffrey Ballet, in a reimagining of Alexander Pushkin's vast poetic tale. Performed in various forms over the past century-and-a-half, be it as an opera, a ballet, play, musical or movie, Eugene Onegin is a dark and passionate story, full of unrequited love, heartbreaking duels and all-consuming regret.
What Is The Story?
When Eugene Onegin, a fun-loving and narcissistic young gentleman, accompanies his best friend, Lensky, to the Larin Country State in St. Petersburg, his life is ultimately turned upside down as he meets the modest and quiet Tatyana. Initially rejecting her advances, Onegin goes on his way unaware that a mere five years later his encounter with the young girl would change him beyond repair.
