Why see A Christmas Carol?

A Classic Christmas Theatre Event!

Penny-pinching and bad-tempered old miser Ebenezer Scrooge goes on the adventure of his life, from his past to his present and beyond and learns that the value of gold will never equal that of genuine love for his fellow men. The classic tale thrills with it's beloved characters and message of compassion, love and kindness and of course, Christmas spirit!

Ever since Charles Dickens first penned A Christmas Carol in 1843, it has seen myriad stage adaptations and the popularity of this tale of redemption and second chances has seemingly never waned. From stage to screen, opera to one-man shows, it is one of the most influential Christmas shows and a traditional holiday outing that defines the joy of the Yuletide period for most of us.

Bah! Humbug! What Is A Christmas Carol About?

Ebenezer Scrooge doesn't see the point of letting his employees have a day off for Christmas, not even kind Bob Cratchit, whose son Tiny Tim is very sick. Eventually, he is convinced and retires to his room to pass Christmas Eve as he usually does, alone. But this Christmas is different. He has a visitor for a change, the wretched soul of his former business partner Jacob Marley. Doomed to wander the earth for eternity for his sins in life, Marley warns Scrooge of 3 impending visitations.

In a flurry of fear, he meets the gentle Ghost of Christmas Past, the jolly Ghost of Christmas Present and the terrifying Ghost of Christmas to Come, all of whom want to teach him a lesson...

A Christmas Carol at the Goodman AWESOME

My family and I truly enjoyed the Goodman Theatre's A Christmas Carol. This year has been a challenge for my family and I , losing a family member to cancer, earlier this year and purchasing tickets, to see A Christmas Carol was a way to assist us in turning things around. We had an amazing time, we attended the Christmas tree lighting and was able to pose for photographs with the cast of the show. The cast was so professional and personable at the same time. My 12-year old daughter's birthday is November 15 and purchasing tickets was also a way to celebrate her birthday. I said to my daughter softly "come on birthday girl lets take a photo" and the cast of A Christmas Carol said in unisense "Happy Birthday" as the photo was being taken, that truly touched my heart because that was so very naturally kind and unexpected. A wonderful experience. ... Read more

We go back year after year and are amazed to see all the new and creative touches that are incorporated. We never tire of this play. The team at Goodman just keeps raising the bar. What a splendid performance this past Saturday. The acting, music and choreography was spectacular. The set design ---- outstanding. BRAVO, Goodman. Bravo! We will be back for more of Scrooge and Marley in 2015. ... Read more
