Over 60 Years Of Dance
Designated by Congress as 'a vital American cultural ambassador to the world', it's been over 60 years since Alvin Ailey and his group of African-American dancers performed for the very first time at the 92nd Street Y in New York City. Since then, they've established themselves as one of the most eclectic and diverse dance companies in America.
The company's performances are a whirlwind of spectacularly choreographed dances, ballet and jazz side by side with the rumba. The subject of the pieces are uniquely African American ruminations on the grand sweep of history and our place within it.

Magnificent
OMG, thoroughly enjoyed the experience. This was my first ballet and I was just so amazed. I wish I had not waited til my 50’s to come. I took my daughter and two grandchildren. We all enjoyed it. Well my grandson wasn’t excited but he had the opportunity to see a variety of ethnicity, genders and a ballet. Great experience. And I vowed to see Alvin Ailey whenever they are in Chicago. ... Once in a lifetime
I've wanted to see this show ever since my dance history classes in college. My mother-in-law got us spectacular seats and I sobbed my way through the entire production. Never have I seen such aesthetically pleasing lines, seemingly tangible energy moving through every inch of every dancer's body, and a wonderful repertoire of cohesive movement from beginning to end, history to modern day. THIS WAS MY 2 YEAR OLD GRANDSON'S BIRTHDAY GIFT... AND HE LOVED IT!!! HE ENJOYED CLAPPING HIS HANDS TO THE MUSIC, AND WAS CAPTIVATED BY THE DANCING AS HE SWAYED AND ROCKED HIS HEAD TO MANY OF THE SONGS THROUGHOUT THE PERFORMANCE!
