Isabelle Geffroy, aka Zaz, has been hailed as a modern-day Edith Piaf. French pop songstress Zaz first introduced the world to her heady blend of gypsy jazz, soul, and acoustic folk with the release of breakout hit 'Je Veux' in 2010.
Not only calling to mind Piaf, but the likes of Ella Fitzgerald and Yves Montand, Zaz's smoky vocals strike an interesting balance between husky and smooth, bouncing over playfully pronounced syllables with lightness and ease. Evoking the nostalgia of a time when men and women floated on the dance floor to the strains of toms and brass, her work is steeped in a sense of French romance and charm that is mirrored in her stage performances.
