Celebrating 100 Years of Children's Classical Concerts
The Chicago Symphony Orchestra believes classical music should be accessible to all, including the littlest of ears! That's why their fun, engaging family-friendly series provide relaxed, child-orientated matinee concerts in which they explore great orchestral music and composers, where the music comes from and how its shaping the future.
Celebrating 100th season of the CSO's kids concert series, the ensemble and special guest conductor Thomas Wilkins welcome parents and kids aged 5 and up to a concert focused on Modest Mussorgsky's Pictures At An Exhibition, a romantic era showpiece of ten virtuoso solos for piano composed in 1874. Later transformed into a shimmering orchestral flight of technicolor by impressionist composer Maurice Ravel, it is a stunning depiction of a selection of drawings and water color paintings that takes the listener on a journey through an art gallery. An exhibition of artworks by students from local Chicago schools will also be displayed in the Rotunda of the Symphony Center.
