Featuring the music of Britten and Tchaikovsky in a family oriented special
A fantastic opportunity to get newcomers into classic music, this special program combines both the magic of Tchaikovsky's Sleeping Beauty, as well as Koln Benjamin Britten's The Young Person’s Guide to the Orchestra, which is a famous all-encompassing journey around the orchestra. Using themes and focus on the woodwinds, brass, strings and percussion, this beautiful and informative piece of music was featured on the soundtrack for Wes Anderson's Moonrise Kingdom in 2012.
Tchaikovsky's section features the famous waltz from Act 2 of Sleeping Beauty, one of the most beloved pieces of music in the composers ballet score. A brilliant way to explore the delights of classical music for the whole family, this engagement marks Bramwell Tovey's debut for the Chicago Symphony Orchestra as conductor.
