Italian maestro Riccardo Muti is currently the CSO's resident conductor, and leads this season's exciting performances for both newcomers and regular patrons alike. This engagement sees three beautiful pieces performed; namely Rossini's Overture to Semiramide, Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 4 Mendelssohn's Symphony No. 5 (Reformation). The notable piece of the concert is Reformation, which was composed to celebrate 300th anniversary of Lutheran Church. With special guest Yefim Bronfman performing Beethoven's Piano Concerto.
The virtuoso skills of Soviet-born pianist Yefim Bronfman remains highly sought-after by the world's most prestigious orchestras. Immigrating to Israel as a teen with his family, he explored his musical talents by learning under pianist Arie Vardi at Tel Aviv University. A true genius on the ivory keys, he is returning to Chicago Symphony before embarking on a whirlwind tour of the orchestras of New York, Los Angeles, Boston, Philadelphia, Cleveland, San Francisco, St. Louis, Houston and Dallas in 2017.
