Clare Barron's 015 Obie Award winner
First premiering off-Broadway in 2014, this touching and bittersweet 2015 Obie Award-winning comedy drama from Clare Barron explores loneliness, sexual frustration and impending death. Following the stagnant half-life of a young woman, Mae, she escapes the banality of her day to day by moving in with her seriously ill father, who is in denial about his cancer. Treading a fine line between the denial of life and denial of death at the same time, we get a unique and sometimes disturbing insight into the relationship between aging parent and disillusioned adulthood.
With a failed relationship and lost job behind her (never date your boss!), she tries to reconnect with her more content siblings as they while away the hours in the hospital waiting room. However, Mae only cares about her father, and the fear of losing him - but at the end, it becomes apparent that his lust for life is the catalyst to get her life back on track. But who is the mysterious cowboy who visits her dreams at night?
