Why See Santana?
2016 Luminosity Tour
Carlos Santana returned to his Latin roots with his last record Corazon, a twelve track collection of tracks featuring some of the biggest names in Latin popular music (Pitbull, Gloria Estefan) and sung for the most part in Spanish. It felt like a homecoming record of sorts for the Mexican guitarist, who over the course of his 40 plus year career has sampled the music of every country and culture under the sun.
Recognised as one of the greatest guitarists on the planet, Santana first came to public attention in the sixties as the founder of his eponymous band. A star turn at the 1969 Woodstock festival made their name and Santana has been throwing out licks ever since, either leading his band or as a solo artist. His career has had its ups and downs, but was thoroughly revived in the late 1990s, with a series of collaborative albums with some of the world's biggest stars. 1999's Supernatural, which won an astounding nine Grammy Awards, boasted guest stars as diverse as Eric Clapton and Lauryn Hill, while 2002's Shaman once again blended Santana's soulful playing with the world of pop and hip hop, featuring the likes of Macy Gray and Dido.
Santana shows no signs of hanging up his guitar anytime soon, and is touring North America from through 2016 in support of Corazon. Santana will play Ravinia Pavillion in Highland Park, IL, Closed August 12, 2017.
Performance date: 11 August 2017
