It's Only a Play

A whirlwind theatrical send-up from the writer of Ragtime

Why See It's Only a Play?

A Perfect Showbiz Send-Up

From four-time Tony winner Terrence McNally, writer of Ragtime and Kiss of the Spider Woman, comes this irresistibly frothy comedy about backstage theatrical antics. It's Only A Play is set on the opening night of a Broadway show. The cast and crew, a disparate mixture of pompous personalities, drug addicts and bad boys, all gather to await the first press reviews. As their anxiety mounts and the drink flows ever faster, McNally engineers one hilarious set piece after another.

It's Only a Play originally ran on Off-Off Broadway in the 1980s, and was first staged on the main stem in 2014. A blockbuster production, with a cast that Matthew Broderick, Nathan Lane, Rupert Grint and many more, it was nominated for two Tony Awards.
