Escape to Margaritaville

Closed December 2, 2017

With beaches, tropical scenery and the titular beverage, 'Escape to Margaritaville' aches of summer. It's a blissful escape from the mundanity of a fast-paced world as vacation grows closer each day.

Why See Escape to Margaritaville?

Paradise on Earth

Jimmy Buffett's sunny songs have soundtracked countless beach parties over the years, but now they'll be heard in the slightly more auspicious surroundings of the Oriental Theatre. Escape to Margaritaville is a brand new jukebox musical which will receive its premiere in Chicago for a limited run, before heading off to Broadway. With a book by Greg Garcia (My Name is Earl) & Mike O'Malley (Shameless), this show tells the story of part-time bartender whiling away his days in an idyllic island paradise, before a career-minded tourist catches his eye.

Buckets of Buffett

Featuring a load of Buffett classics ('Margaritaville,' 'Cheeseburger in Paradise') alongside some new numbers written especially for the show, Escape to Margaritaville invites you to grab a beer, kick back and soak in the good times. This Chicago engagement is directed by two-time Tony nominee Christopher Ashley (Memphis, Rocky Horror Picture Show), with choreography by Tony nominee Kelly Devine (Rock of Ages, Rocky) and costume design by Tony winner Paul Tazewell (Hamilton).

What is Margaritaville About?

Picture crystal clear waves lapping at the shore, palm tress swaying in the breeze and the sun burning high in the blue sky, and you have Margaritaville. A holiday destination for anyone wanting to get away from it all, this island paradise is also home to Tully, a part-time bartender and singer-songwriter who thinks he's got it made. That is until a beautiful, career-minded tourist steals his heart, and makes him wonder if there's more to life than just taking it easy.
