The 1992 Tony Award-winning comedy musical
Dubbed as "The New Gershwin Musical", this 1992 romantic comedy is actually based on an earlier musical from 1930 called Girl Crazy. With music and lyrics from both George and Ira Gershwin respectively and a book by contemporary playwright Ken Ludwig, Crazy For You features a host of songs from the two legendary team amalgamated from other musicals, and won three Tony Awards including Best Musical upon its original premiere in New York. Part of the 2017 season from Drury Lane Oakbrook Theatre.
Crazy For You takes a meta approach to musical theatre whilst following a jaded New York banker Bobby Child as he is assigned to foreclose on a small theater in a provincial mining town. However, his plans go awry as he falls head over heels with a local showgirl, whereupon he defies his bosses and endeavours to save the theater from the bank's clutches. A charming musical comedy that provides laughter, tears and romance, it features fabulous Gershwin standards including "I Can't Be Bothered Now," "I Got Rhythm," "Nice Work If You Can Get It," and "Someone to Watch Over Me", with a new lease of life for new audiences.
