A Heartfelt Depiction of Life, Love, Loss & Friendship
Buckle up for a theatrical ride from the playwright behind the Obie Award-winning Volunteer Man, Dan Clancy. Playing at Chicago's Apollo Theatre for a strictly limited four-week run in early 2020, Middletown is a deeply intimate, yet universal depiction of the enduring nature of life, love and friendship.
Charting the highs and lows of a bond between two couples 33 years in the making, the heartfelt dramedy follows Don and Dotty Abrams, and Tom and Peg Hogan between 1976 and 2020. As the years pass, trials and tribulations inevitably arise, but their heartbreaks and joys are shared, balanced out by every loving exchange between Dottie and Don, and the funny banter between Tom and Peg. Despite looking back to the past, Middletown reminds us that life is for living in the here and now in the grand tradition of A.R Gurney's Love Letters.
