The heart-breaking new play by Andrew Hinderaker
What happens when your private life takes a life-changing hit, and you are due on stage less than an hour later? Therein lies the premise of this bittersweet play, making its world premiere at the Goodman this fall. Devised by Andrew Hinderaker and starring the talented actor-magician Brett Schneider, this production combines mind-blowing tricks and illusions, tempered by the Magician's growing realization that his hugely successful public persona and technical skill just may have been the catalyst that drove his lover away.
Part magic show, part very human drama, we witness the trauma of a professional performer coming to terms with the difficulties in his personal life, as he battles to contain his emotions and carry on with the show. The Magic Play is directed by Halena Kays, who previously directed the workshop version in New York, as well as the acclaimed Lord of the Flies at Steppenwolf Theatre Company.
