A WORLD PREMIERE!
An uplifting play about modern life whilst honoring your heritage forms the base of this new work by Lauren Yee, a world premiere commission for Goodman. Set in America's largest Chinatown in San Francisco, this play chronicles the conflict between patriarchal family values and the desire to live ones own life as a Chinese American woman; this comes to a head when her much-loved immigre father goes missing one day, and a desperate search for him leads her into the heart of her heritage and culture, as a condition that he come home.
The struggle between balancing traditional Chinese customs and traditions with a Western lifestyle is at the heart of many families in the Chinese-American community across the country. Rather than painting either culture in a bad light, Lauren Yees' emotional new work is a call to explore one's own heritage and culture, whilst enjoying life as an American. Her previous works include Her plays include Ching Chong Chinaman, The Hatmaker's Wife and Hookman
