Chicago's Goodman Theatre continues its groundbreaking 2019/20 season with emerging African American playwright Korde Arrington Tuttle's insightful and topical drama Graveyard Shift. Helmed by New York director Danya Taymor, it explores the close ties between victim and perpetrator when two sets of lives collide in a whirlwind of racism, misogyny, opposing ideologies and hidden truths.
Inspired by the tragic events surrounding the arrest of Sandra Bland, a victim of police brutality, Graveyard Shift offers up a startling glimpse into the lives of Janelle and Kane - Chicagoan Janelle is in search of her dream job in Texas, a move that would bring her closer to Kane, her long distance boyfriend. Simultaneously, Tuttle explores the graveyard shift of a small police unit back in rural Texas, and when Janelle lands the job and heads to Lone Star State, a series of events are set in motion that tears lives and communities apart.
