What Did The Critics Think of SIX?

The British sensation lands in the USA

Written by Brit University graduates Toby Marlow and Lucy Moss, SIX has become a national sensation across the pond, but what did the critics think when the musical landed in Chicago?

Chicago critics were full of praise for the 75-minute concert experience, with the Chicago Sun-Times saying "Resistance is futile: The Queens are a forcefield. Ditto the score, and its glorious onslaught of power ballads, pile-driving punk numbers, Day-Glo ravers, Spice Girls realness, rap, hip-hop and head-banging, hair-whipping, foot-stomping, twerk-worthy old school of rock-and-roll."

The Daily Herald mirrored the sentiment saying, "...a joyous romp that mixes and melds history with pop culture, "SIX" offers a fascinating, fun feminist romp on six women who will forever stand out in history."

New City Stage said, "Part musical competition, part history lesson, this seventy-five-minute rockstar performance deserves the continual applause and cheers it received from the crowd". They continued with praise for the cast saying, "They are a powerhouse ensemble with the vocality of icons like Beyonce, Adele, Rhianna and Alicia Keys".

What is SIX about?

Catherine of Aragon, Anne Boleyn, Jane Seymour, Anne of Cleves, Catherine Howard, Katherine Parr. You know the names, and you may know how each of their marriages to a certain king came to an end, but these six women are far from just a historical footnote. In Six, the floor is theirs as they tell you what really went down in the court of Henry VIII.

SIX is now playing at the Chicago Shakespeare Theater through to June 30.
