Why See The White Snake?

From director Mary Zimmerman comes an elegant adaptation of The White Snake, a Chinese Legend about an immortal, but lonely snake who finds love in the human realm. Expertly choreographed, with puppets and live singing adding to the creation of a dream-like atmosphere, this acclaimed marvel is sure to be the jewel of the Goodman Theatre's Summer season.

Synopsis

White Snake is a mystical serpent living on the mountain with her sassy friend Green snake. After magically transforming into a beautiful woman, White Snake has a chance encounter with the kind and upright Xu Xaun. Falling deeply in love, the couple swiftly marry and along with Green Snake, begin a new life together. But Fai Hai, a buddist monk, realises something is amiss on the mountain, and sets out to restore White Snake to her former self, pitting sky against ocean in the process.

A sweeping adventure that sees White Snake decide between Xu Xuan the supernatural in this sweet tale of the fleeting nature of life and loss.
