Hello Dollly!
One of America's greatest comedies comes to the Goodman Theatre stage as part of their new season. Written by three-time Pulitzer Prize winner Thornton Wilder, The Matchmaker is a delightfully madcap farce, full of mistaken identities, misunderstandings and slapstick set-pieces. It follows the efforts of vivacious matchmaker Dolly in convincing wealthy merchant Horace that she's his perfect match. First opening on Broadway in 1955, the play served as the basis for the classic musical Hello Dolly!
What is The Matchmaker about?
In 1880's Yonkers a rich merchant by the name of Horace Vandergelder is on the lookout for a wife. To help him on his quest he engages the services of professional matchmaker Dolly Gallagher Levi, but little does Horace know that Dolly had his perfect match in mind from their very first meeting - herself! Now all she has to do is make Horace realise it as well!
