Closing off its 30th anniversary season, Drury Lane presents one of the world's most popular musicals. A mid-20th century retelling of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, we follow the tale of two young lovers caught between rival gangs, the Jets and the Sharks.
This revolutionary work reinvented the American musical when it burst onto the Broadway stage in 1957. With a book by Arthur Laurents, music by Leonard Bernstein, lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, and conception and choreography by Jerome Robbins, West Side Story continues to enthrall audiences and stay relevant well into the 21st century. It features an electrifying Latin and jazz-infused score including "Somewhere," "Tonight," "I Feel Pretty," and "America".
